Testing and tagging ensure your electrical equipment meets safety standards and complies with workplace regulations.

We provide testing and tagging services across Sydney and regional NSW for businesses, industrial facilities, and commercial properties that need their electrical appliances and equipment certified safe for use.

What gets tested:

  • Portable electrical appliances and equipment
  • Power tools and workshop equipment
  • Office equipment, including computers, printers, and monitors
  • Kitchen appliances in commercial settings
  • Extension leads and power boards
  • Industrial machinery and portable equipment

Testing frequency

How often you need testing depends on your industry. Construction sites and high-risk workplaces require testing every 3 to 6 months. Standard office environments typically need annual testing. We’ll advise on the right schedule for your business to stay compliant without over-testing.

Regular testing and tagging protect your employees, satisfy inspectors, and reduce the risk of costly shutdowns or fines.

Testing and tagging done efficiently:

We complete testing and tagging efficiently without disrupting your operations longer than necessary. You get clear reports, compliant tags on all equipment, and reminders when retesting is due. Work with JDR to keep your workplace compliant and avoid costly shutdowns.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What happens during a testing and tagging visit?

Answer

We test each item using specialised equipment to check for electrical faults, insulation breakdown, and earth continuity. Items that pass get a compliance tag with the test date and the next due date. Failed items get tagged as unsafe with details of the fault.

Can we keep using the equipment while you're testing?

Answer

We test equipment in stages to minimise disruption. You don’t need to shut down completely, but the specific items being tested need to be disconnected and available during their testing window.

Do we need testing and tagging if we're a small office with just computers and printers?

Answer

Yes. Workplace safety regulations apply regardless of business size. Even small offices with standard equipment need regular testing to comply with WHS requirements and maintain insurance coverage.

What's the difference between testing, tagging and an electrical safety inspection?

Answer

Testing and tagging checks portable appliances and equipment. Electrical safety inspections check your building’s fixed wiring, switchboards, and power outlets. Both are required but cover different aspects of electrical safety.

Will our insurance cover us if we haven't done testing and tagging?

Answer

Most commercial insurance policies require electrical compliance as a condition of coverage. Failure to test and tag in compliance can impact claims if electrical faults cause incidents or injuries.

Can we test and tag our own equipment?

Answer

Only if you have staff who are qualified and hold the appropriate competency certification. Most businesses find it more practical and reliable to use licensed electricians who carry proper testing equipment and insurance.
